Aroview: A queasy fairytale about a suburban teenage girl who quests to fall pregnant, does so, but is then forced by her mother (Barkin) to have an abortion, and in desperation flees her family life for a fundementalist commune; yes... another troubling moralistic-misanthropic 'comedy' from dir. Todd Solondz (HAPPINESS).
Pursuing his agenda through various 'hot topics', this should be taken with a dose of caution, not least because of Solondz' aesthetic risk in having the lead character played by a succession of 8 actresses of different ages and races (incl. Leigh). However, such intelligently non-humanistic filmmaking is rare and this is certainly worth the plunge, proving moving, horrifying and hilarious in all the wrong, yet somehow right, ways.
