Aroview: Another of dir. Ozu's majestic domestic dramas, this time concerning the inner-family conflicts over the spinsterhood of a daughter (Hara) and the restrictive life possibilities of post-WW2 Japan.

Although giving hints of the changing mores of Japanese society, this, like all of Ozu's dramas, concentrates on the nuances and existential depths of ordinary life, revealed by patient filmmaking and visual formality. Well worth a view for those only familiar with TOKYO STORY.
