Insect Woman, The
Aroview: The social upheaval of Japanese life between the wars is examined through the eyes of a struggling but resilient women in a poor farming village. The film's title metaphorically compares the endless repetition of an insect's life to the Sisyphean hopelessness of living in a society with so few options for a lower class woman, even as the decades roll on. A hugely ambitious feat of multi-generational social history.
