Mountain Patrol
Aroview: An enthralling eco-thriller which portrays the battle over the endangered Tibetan antelope between poachers and a hard-knit unit of preservationists in a hostile, high-altitude landscape.
A lone reporter (Zhang) travels to the highlands of Tibet and links up with the grizzled commander (Duo) of a ragged band of self-funded paramilitaries who are fighting a losing battle against desperate peasants, gangs armed with machine-guns and the harsh natural environment. Part-funded by National Geographic, the films environmentalist politics are clear enough, but it is to dir. Chuan Li's credit that he nails a visceral and unique sense of place for his suspenseful drama.
