Paradise Now
Aroview: This extraordinarily brave film shadows the martyrdom of two Palestinian friends recruited by an extremist group to perpetrate a suicide bombing in Tel-Aviv.
The knife edge of life and death makes for enthralling drama, while its direct and clear-headedness is precisely what made it so contentious in its native Palestine. Being made before, but released here after, the Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank, the film could be seen as prescient, perhaps even influential, and surely resonates in ways the film-makers never anticipated.
