Aroview: A socially hapless, self-loathing TV weatherman in Chicago (Cage) navigates the colliding mid-life storms of family, career and adulthood in this unexpectedly strange drama, which manages to construct a determinedly warty situation with few prospects of a happy ending in sight.
Beset by a disappointed father (Caine), sympathetic, if impatient ex-wife (Davis) and two sullen teenage children, Cage's chief handicap is a disconnected genius for saying and doing the wrong thing, lent a pathos by his bedraggled good intention to somehow redeem himself. But the fact that, as weatherman, he is routinely pelted by milkshakes on the Chicago streets by fans simply doesn't help his attitude... Sporting an enjoyably bad attitude, this finally achieves a rare degree of genuine Hollywood poignance.

4 stars (Very Good) David is a Chicago TV weatherman, estranged from his wife and children, whose life is a mess. And just like the uncertainty and unpredictability of the weather, things could turn out fine - or all turn to custard. Refreshingly different. ~GenXGirl
2 stars (Good Try) A very good plot idea is thwarted by another over the top performance from Cage. It would be good to read the story without the distraction of Cage's histrionics or watch a remake of the film with the title role recast. ~Tubbs
