Poseidon
Aroview: Pointless, but admittedly lean and racy, this remake of the 1970s disaster epic THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE is set aboard a giant cruise ship which is upturned by a freak tsunami and out of which a small gang of passengers struggle to escape.
Dir. Petersen (DAS BOOT) helms the vessel with plenty of waterlogged experience, although the substitution of mammoth sets and stuntwork with a procession of CGI effects is decidedly disappointing. Still, the action comes thick and fast, and some of the cast put a bit of agreeable spin on their preordained stereotyped roles, notably Josh Lucas, as a rather slippery hero, and, Richard Dreyfuss, as a virtuous gay millionaire.
