X-Men 3: The Last Stand

USA 2006, 104 minutes
Dir. Brett Ratner
Genres: Science Fiction, Action/Adventure / Fantasy

Aroview: Third entry in the X-MEN series maintains the intensity with a raft of new mutants - of various persuasions - and an intriguing new storyline, bringing the highly successful franchise to an exciting conclusion.

With ongoing tensions between human and super-endowned mutant populations at an uneasy truce, a 'cure' for mutations is discovered and superheros like Wolverine (Jackman), Storm (Berry), Rogue (Pacquin) and Mystique (Romijn-Stamos) must decide whether to 'switch' back to normalcy. All of which proves a fresh crisis for both the moderate and extremist camps, leading to Magneto (McKellen) launching a fresh round of insurgency climaxing with a daring escape from a 'super prison' on Alcatraz Island.

Also providing an excellent subplot is the reappearance of Phoenix (Janssen), a woman raised from the dead and possessed by a fiery alter-ego. As usual featuring great f/x, this is none too coherent in its overall shape, but ticks off the action necessities with considerable relish.
