Ballets Russes
Aroview: Splendidly absorbing and intimate look at the legacy of the famous Ballets Russes dance comapny, initially founded by Serge Diaghilev in 1909, then famously reformed in 1920s Monte Carlo by expatriates who had fled the Russian Revolution.
Becoming a globe-trotting phenomenon which passionately practiced the ideals of modern-dance with help from collaborators such as Pablo Picasso, Igor Stravinsky, George Balanchine and Agnes De Mille, until the late-1950s, this documentary has a handful of Ballet Russes survivors charismatically recount their extraordinary experiences, supported by a startling array of footage unearthed from the archives around the world.
