Aro Favourite Pina

Germany / France / UK 2011, 106 minutes
Dir. Wim Wenders
In German, French, English with English subtitles
Genres: Documentary / Dance, Performing Arts

“A movie that does more than demolish the invisible wall between film and dance; it breaks the barrier that intervenes, even at a live performance, between seat and stage.”~Daniel Engber, Slate

Aroview: A dazzling celebration of the late German dance pioneer Pina Bausch, whose challenging and subversive choreography is performed by those who danced for and with her.

Though originally shot in 3D for cinemas, Wenders’s vividly photographed film loses none of its energy and fluidity here, with Bausch remembered primarily through the expression of dance (talking head interviews, innovatively shot, are kept to a minimum). Of course, the true test of any artist’s portrait is its ability to draw the viewer in regardless of their predisposition to the art, and this bright, dynamic, intensely physical documentary has it in spades.
