Aroview: Raw, unapologetic adaptation of David Mamet's 1982 stageplay stars William H. Macy as a downtrodden everyman who embarks on a volatile late-night outing on the dark city streets after being dealt a series of sinister tarot cards by a fortune teller.
Ditching his marriage he indulges in the delights and depths of the nightlife from strip club, bar, and brothel, to pawn shops and grungy alleyways, slipping imperceptively from obedient office drone to sociopathic sinner along the way. Rendered with due intensity by the dir. Gordon, a longtime Mamet acolyte, this misses true psychological plausibility, but Macy's fearless performance is a treat and there are some nerve-wracking scenes to savour afterwards.
