Clerks 2
Aroview: Troublesome sequel to Kevin Smith's vulgar low-budget classic again injects bawdy humour and repressed angst into the lives of two listless, no-hoper clerks (O'Halloran, Anderson) killing time in the retail hell of a convenience-store, video-shop, fast-food suburban cluster.
Set ten years after the original, this reinvents the romantic crises and friendship dilemmas of the first CLERKS, but best hits its mark in the predictable pop-culture banter of its characters, which will gratify diehard Smith-fans no end, although perhaps leave others distinctly underwhelmed. Only with its slightly nostalgic tone and Rosario Dawson's warm performance as O'Halloran's too-close-for-comfort boss, is there much new on offer in Smith's wellworn groove.
