5 stars (Exceptional) True story of John Merrick, afflicted with a disfiguring congenital disease, is cast aside & mistreated by society. Until a kind surgeon rescues him from his life as a side-show freak, and reveals a man of great intellect, emotion & depth. Inspirational. ~GenXGirl
