Running Scared
Aroview: Flashy, hopped-up mob thriller has New Jersey foot-soldier Paul Walker assigned to conceal a snub-nosed revolver, a gun used in a notorious police killing, but which is discovered by his young son and a neighbourhood lad, who uses it to shoot his Russian stepfather, also a gangster.
Soon there are many individuals and groups dead set on retrieving the weapon, including Walker himself, tripping into a rather intense and violent ride with generous dollops of suspense, sleaze and thoroughly nasty characters. The drama is nicely balanced by his need to protect his family under uncertain circumstances, but its the whip-pan action that dominates. Dir. Kramer ups his game after the rather stolid THE COOLER and this is worth a look for fans of Tony Scott and Quentin Tarantino.
