Aroview: Spellbinding BBC version of Henrik Ibsen's great play, with Patrick McGoohan playing a young priest who idealistically adopts a doctrine that one must give "all or nothing" to God.

Although this strictness appeals to some in his home village, he becomes increasingly estranged with extreme actions like refusing last rites to his dying mother and eventually tries to lead the villagers to their death and salvation in the mountains. Although repellent, McGoohan's character impresses as a religious charismatic in full flight, struggling with the meaning of faith.
