Aroview: A film that is close to our hearts, this is a good-humoured yet scathing attack on the American Film Industry and the hush of its censorship consortium under the guise of the MPAA ratings board.
Rightfully indignant over of the absurdities and hypocrisies of the American classification system, doco film-maker Kirby Dirk taps into a chorus of frustrated contemporaries with many anecdotes and clips to prove their point. Armed with a camera, courage and cunning, he sets out to find some answers about what exactly goes on behind closed doors, and what kind of people are making the decisions for the ''greater good of all Americans''. All good stuff, though he does neglect specifics about the problematic advertising of restricted films and America's seeming aversion for 'adults-only' fims.
(Arovideo special note: While issues around censorship are not the same as they are in the US, absurdities are just as rife in our system, as we grapple (on an almost daily basis) with laws that are 20 years out of step with the times.) For more details, please send us an e-mail!

4 stars (Very Good) A brilliant up-close look at the censorship of film and media, including interviews with some of our time's most controversial film-makers. ~Tom H
5 stars (Exceptional) Gripping look at the secret group of "ordinary parents" & clergy who classify US movies, ignoring gratuitous violence but cutting explicit sex scenes, esp. if homosexual or black. Favours industry ahead of independents. Ignores porn. Topical. ~Sandy
