Black Dahlia, The
Aroview: Seething with atmosphere, this noir crime-drama (based on James Ellroy's novel) presents a complicated case of the unsolved Hollywood murder of aspiring actress Elizabeth ‘Black Dahlia’ Short in the 1940s.
A leisurely pace allows dir. DePalma to examine a three-way flirtatious relationship between the investigators (and ex-boxing rivals) Hartnett and Eckhart alongside Scarlett Johannson. The film looks great and digs up plenty of greed, lust and murder but lacks the emotional vulnerability to match as the plot zig-zags from lesbian nightclubs to homicide investigations.

3 stars (Good Enough) Nice to look at at, some good acting, but ending bizarre and full of plot holes. Hilary Swank is wasted in this. De Palma goes completely off the rails on his story of who actually carried out the murder. Mia Kirshner is very good as Liz Short. ~emjay
2 stars (Good Try) The best thing about this production are the period details which are extremely well done. ~Tubbs
