Apocalypto
Aroview: Dir. Mel Gibson’s oft-enthralling action adventure follows a young tribesman living in a jungle village who is taken prisoner by Mayan warriors, on the hunt for fresh slaves and fresh sacrifices.
Gibson’s follow-up to THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST is part tense, near-dialogueless manhunt through the forest, part fly-on-the-wall journey into the likely brutality of the Mayan empire. Though not for the squeamish, this stylish action-adventure thankfully feels far less torturous than the director's last.

4 stars (Very Good) I'll leave appraisal of its cultural depiction to more educated voices. As evocation of Jungle Life Long Ago, it's uniquely atmospheric; as a grisly fight-and-flight thrill-ride, it's vividly intense, but does jump the shark bad in its climactic minute ~fairbrother
5 stars (Exceptional) Intense action movie with a wonderful chase scene and excellent visuals ~emjay
