One and Only, The

Aroview: Based on a 1999 romantic comedy by Susanne Bier (OPEN HEARTS), this relocates the original film’s star-crossed predicament to Newcastle, England, with a pregnant footballer’s wife turning to a widowed, working class single father after her Italian soccer star husband starts playing the field.

At best a middling romantic comedy propped up by the usual relational gags and clichés, this makes considerable use of its Tyneside setting, with Geordie hospitality and the splendor of the Newcastle/Gateshead topography demanding first billing ahead of the film’s otherwise terribly inadequate cast.
