Valet, The
Aroview: Another inspired comic concoction from Francis Veber (dir. of most everything French and funny), that this time follows a meek parking valet who poses as the unlikely boyfriend of a supermodel in order to fool the divorce-threatening wife of a philandering CEO, and his hilarious negation of the absurd screwball scenario.
While never straying from the tried-and-true formula, Veber’s French twist on the Joe Average premise dishes up the usual faux pas with expect precision and timing. The less enamored of Veber’s fans may find this a little close to expiration in terms of its rundown situational comedy, but there’s still plenty to savour: not in the least of which, a fetching Alice Taglioni, and the disarming everyman of Gad Elmaleh as make-believe girlfriend and boy-toy respectively.
