Old Joy
Aroview: Downbeat naturalism is the tramping ground for this meditative, softly spoken indie of two distanced friends who reunite for a weekend camping trip in Oregon’s majestic mountain ranges.
Tonally pensive but also a hark back to the simplicity of 70s cinema, dir. Reichardt forces little dialogue or superfluous visuals, opting instead to let their picturesque surroundings do the talking. Quietly agitated by the talk back airwaves of a divided nation, the film carries an air of disenchantment and spiritual reflection befitting of its modest, unhurried temperament – hippies and nature seekers should apply. Music by Yo La Tengo.
