TV Junkie
Aroview: An excruciating, warts-and-all video confession exposing Rick Kirkam’s decade-long cocaine addiction from behind the face of a prime-time television reporter.
Crunching down an astonishing 3000 hours of diary footage into a TARNATION-esque DIY documentary, dir. Radecki reveals not only Kirkam’s candor and bleeding heart mentality, but the destructive effects of a twin addiction: crack cocaine, first and foremost, but also Kirkam’s pathological desire to film every waking moment of his life, whether in high spirits or utter despair. Powerfully, it’s a film that speaks for itself as an anti-drug testimony, though arguably crosses the boundaries of decency upon turning the camera on Kirkam’s wife and child when in the midst of his most violent episodes.
