Catch and Release

Aroview: A usually sprightly Jennifer Garner plays the soberly named Gray, a recent widow who finds comfort in the manly support group of three old friends.

Among the bachelors clamoring to offer Gray a shoulder to cry on are Kevin Smith (as a rotund lout), and the best friend of her deceased husband (Olyphant), a prospective new love interest. Middling rom-com notions fail to blend with the film’s serious forays into the concept of grief, though is not entirely a loss with refreshing, offsetting turns from Smith and Juliette Lewis.
