Seven Swords
Aroview: Legendary Hong Kong dir. Tsui Hark returns with an action epic set among the brutal 17th Century Ching dynasty, as seven warriors come together to defend a village from a dastardly General.
Based on an epic Chinese novel (not THE SEVEN SAMURAI to which it bears more than a passing resemblance), this is grittier in comparison to the recent spate of colour-drenched 'wuxia pan' films, but has enough amazing choreography and bloody battle scenes to satisfy those in the mood for a balletic martial arts film.

3 stars (Good Enough) There are some very interesting action sequences, in pure over-the-top Tsui Hark style, and some interesting characters at hand. Just a pity that the fantasy story is so muddled that there is little room for character development or plot arcs. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) A mix of soft music and soft eyes with dramatic well choreographed action. However, the photography proves to be the film's main strength. ~Tubbs
