Air Guitar Nation

Aroview: Sublime documentary on a ridiculous subject, this follows the fortunes of two Americans at the World "Air Guitar" Championships in Finland, in which contestants mime rock-star actions to pre-recorded music.

Arch rivals Asian-American "C-Diddy" and New York poseur "Bjorn Turoque" headline a cast of engaging characters and commentators who each lavish the subject with equal parts reverence and irony. In creating a special something out of an apparent nothing, it goes to show that people can find any excuse to get together and have fun, and with its heroes and villains, bad costumes, great music and a tension-filled, competitive finale, this is probably just as good as the real thing.
