Paranoid Park
Aroview: Gus Van Sant shoots Blake Nelson’s coming-of-age novella, about a young skateboarder’s complicity in the death of a security guard, through his now familiar poetic world view, guided by the lyrical visuals of master cinematographer Christopher Doyle.
Directing his gaze towards teenage apathy and longing, Van Sant’s wandering formalism is anchored here by the fragments of a mortality play, moving this slowly but surely away from the formless, meditative streak of GERRY and LAST DAYS. Further proof that Gus films teenagers with sensuality and rare tenderness, but with a more pleasing narrative focus and lucidity.

3 stars (Good Enough) The kids are fresh and perform naturally without any baggage. The storyline is interesting and it is presented in a low key manner supplemented by a very good soundtrack. ~Tubbs
