Gerry
Aroview: A stark return to experimentalism for dir. Van Sant, in the form of a narrative about two friends, both named Gerry (Damon and Affleck), whose hiking expedition into the American desert turns progressively sour.
Using the powers of suggestion - via music, visuals, improvised acting and the absence of any obvious narrative - over other filmic methods, this will delight those on the lookout for something challenging, as the film increasingly seems to resolve into various 'meta-narratives' about itself.
Certainly a film to ponder at length - the lovingly filmed parched landscapes at least providing an easy resting place for the eyes, as the mind wanders with the protagonists in vaguely-spiralling circles...

3 stars (Good Enough) Captures the banality of trajedy perfectly - there are no heroic gestures, terrible decisions, or flawed characters. Just a couple of guys wandering about, rather vaguely trying to cope, slowly realising that their predicament is serious. ~Anon
4 stars (Very Good) Great use of camera panning, sound and silence. Arthouse. Different. ~Tubbs
