Aroview: Upstart indie comedy that broke wide into the mainstream, this packages up Gen-Y angst and 'riot-grrl' attitude into a commercially appealing story of a precocious teenager's quest to find suitable parents for her unborn baby.
Elliot Page fits the role likes a glove, but its clear he's the surrogate for first-time scriptwriter Diablo Cody, a former internet blogger who is so fixated on contriving colourful hipster lingo she forgets to give most of her characters a third dimension. Widely acclaimed and rather bizarrely nominated for a Best Picture Oscar nomination (it actually won Best Original Screenplay), it is an ultimately superficial exploration of its subject, and is best approached with lowered expectations.

2 stars (Good Try) High school student Juno finds herself pregnant, and decides adoption's the best option. She finds the perfect affluent, hip enough, parents and life goes on - until the couple's marriage goes pear-shaped. Boring plot, and characters too contrived. ~GenXGirl
4 stars (Very Good) A wonderful indie flick with convincing yet quirky performances by Page and Cera, this was an instant favourite with public and critics alike. A sweet, touching, and funny tale that should be seen. ~Tom H
4 stars (Very Good) An appealing, quriky gem, full of life and emotion. ~Wizzums
3 stars (Good Enough) Made me grind my teeth. ~HiFi
4 stars (Very Good) Well written and even the smallest parts were well cast. ~Tubbs
