La Verdad?
Aroview: Whilst in Cuba, Kiwi journalist and mother-of-two Helen Smyth and husband Tim Rose (of Havana Coffee Works) inadvertently delve into its troubled, complex history by way of 80-year-old dissident Nestor Bageur.
Befriending the elderly warhorse, an engaging storyteller with an anti-Castro agenda, Smyth reveals a colourful, if ultimately deceptive past, returning to Cuba to confront Bageur after connections to the communist dictator are exposed. While made with little means, Bageur's story resonates as it epitomises the psyche and spirit of his mother country, whose admirable founding principals may have been lost in a murky 'truth'.
