Drillbit Taylor

USA 2008, 98 minutes
Dir. Steven Brill
Genres: Comedy / Youth

Aroview: Teen comedy of comeuppance from the Rogen/Apatow hit factory (SUPERBAD/KNOCKED UP) focuses on a group of bullied high-schoolers who hire a cheap but demanding bodyguard (an unbridled Owen Wilson) for protection.

More recognisably amusing and perceptive than pants-wettingly hilarious, this coulda-been-a-contender doesn’t quite measure up to the comedic charms of SUPERBAD, though writer Seth Rogen once again displays a canny knack for mimicking teenspeak and mining adolescent insecurities for laughs. Almost inevitable misfire from the golden boys of misfit comedy might leave some feeling underwhelmed, but it still trumps most teen comedies and is definitely worth a watch if you’re a fan of Rogen’s particular brand of humour.
