Iron Man
Aroview: Technically stunning live-action realisation of the story of Marvel comic superhero Iron Man – otherwise known as Tony Stark – a genius inventor who constructs a state-of-the-art armour suit to escape imprisonment and protect the world.
Arguably the best superhero adaptation since SPIDERMAN, this triumph of technology over terrorism and greed is undeniably energised by the devil-may-care presence of Robert Downey Jr., whose wisecracks and weaknesses lend an endearing everyman quality to an otherwise hyper-masculine role. Weakened slightly by somewhat dubious displays of jingoism and questionable ethical solutions, but on the whole a thoroughly entertaining addition to the genre, likely to satisfy both fans of the comic book and those in need of a fantasy fix.

4 stars (Very Good) Another superhero surprise, Iron Man shows how effective an origin story can be (think Spiderman, Batman Begins), with the surprise Robert Downey Jnr convincingly playing both multi-billionaire superstar and reluctant hero. ~Tom H
4 stars (Very Good) Sharp, fresh, exciting and a ton of fun. ~Wizzums
2 stars (Good Try) Above average for the genre especially in the set up early scenes. There is some intelligence in the screenplay and in the lead performance. ~Tubbs
