Aroview: 35 auteurs convey the meaning of cinema in less than three minutes each, in this epic commission to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival.
Although consisting of 34 shorts films set in or around the movie theatre, it is by nature a mixed bag with many segments in the anthology not able to leave a lasting impression through their sheer pithiness and lack of time on screen. Still, film buffs will delight in verifying the master filmmaker behind each contribution, with directorial hallmarks – and indeed authorship – given preference in this who’s who of international cinema.
Our personal picks? Take a bow Roman Polanski, David Cronenberg, Nanni Moretti, Zhang Yimou, Bille August, Walter Salles, Claude Lelouch, and Hou Hsiao-Hsien.
