Aroview: Exhilarating Oscar winner following the tumultuous life of a Mumbai streetkid who suspiciously triumphs on the Indian version of 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?'.
Forced to reveal how he came to know the answers through a series of flashbacks, it's an effective framing device that successfully integrates a variety of Western and Bollywood sugars and spices, while charged with a vitality that can only come from an authentic location shoot. Despite an ending that's arguably "too good to be true", it held sentimental sway with a huge worldwide audience as well as with The Academy, taking home eight Oscars in a charmed twist of fate that curiously echoes the film's own parable. It is written, indeed.

4 stars (Very Good) A touching tale that makes use of successful if unoriginal devices such as flashback story telling and cute child actors, Slumdog Millionaire was always going to win big in 2008. Visually compelling and emotionally heartfelt, this is well worth your time. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) Former slum street-child, Jamal, a contestant on a quiz show is one question away from the grand prize when he's detained & interrogated by police. Through flashbacks we're provided with how this 'slumdog' knows the answers. Bollywood meets Hollywood. ~GenXGirl
4 stars (Very Good) It rides on convention, but it rides high, with plenty of flair and emotion. ~Wizzums
4 stars (Very Good) ~Milana
2 stars (Good Try) I've seen this twice - after the first viewing my comment was "shots of the slums are the only redeeming feature." The second viewing confirms this film is pure commercialism - I'm sure the slums would have offered up a more worthwhile story. ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) Very engaging & spectacular. ~Sandy
