Love Live Long

UK 2008, 75 minutes
Dir. Mike Figgis
Genres: Drama / Independent

Topics: Experimental, Arthouse.

Aroview: Devised/improvised feature from late-blooming experimenter Mike Figgis that hits the road with a well-to-do amateur rally driver as he tours across Europe in the brash and ostentatious 'Gumball Rally'.

He meets a self-destructive femme-fatale who haunts continental hotels, and the films examines the repercussions of their brief, hollow encounter. By turns claustrophobically intimate and fly-on-the-wall detached, one moment the grainy DV camera-eye can be as invisible and observant as in any film, and the next it is suddenly revealed as engaged and in-world, held in the hands of a roving journalist documenting the rally. This tension aids and abets the creeping sense of voyeurism and complicity that overshadows this film's blurring of fact and fantasy.
