Wassup Rockers
Aroview: Teen-centric misanthropist Larry Clark offers a shockingly enthusiastic view of contemporary youth in this story of Latino skaters-cum-punk rockers who rebel against the dominant hip hop culture of South Central LA.
Flunky non-actors, liberal substance abuse and sexual mischief aside, Clark’s latest effort is a largely energetic affair, appreciative of marginal subcultures (ethnic, musical or otherwise) and youthful self-expression. Although the acting remains overly amateurish and at times unconvincing, the sense of rebellion and misadventure rings true in what is arguably the director’s most agreeable film to date.
