Inkheart
Aroview: An under-rated, imaginative rendering of German author Cornelia Funke's novel about a young girl and her father who have the ability to bring characters of books to life when they read aloud.
Brendan Fraser is the token American star in an otherwise all-British affair, fired by irreverent humour and a constant sense of peril as the labyrinthine plot playfully mashes up fictitious characters looking for their literary 'home'. Firmly in the mold of Neil Gaiman adaptations like STARDUST, the comic-fantasy also brings to mind the worlds of Tim Burton, Lemony Snicket and Harry Potter, but it has a personality of its own that is anything but by-the-book.
