Aroview: Unfolding as a series of beautifully designed events, this Hollywood adaptation of the popular fantasy books fortunately doesn't water down the author's Raold Dahl-ian streak of witty macabre, making it delightfully dark fun for young adults and grown-up children.
When three wealthy children's parents are killed in a fire, they are sent to live with malevolent distant relative Count Olaf, who has similar plans for them! The character allows Jim Carrey free reign to explore his comic dexterity, but this is far from a one man show, with Jude Law's self-reflexive narration and the stunning closing credit sequence but two of the supporting highlights.

4 stars (Very Good) Lemony Snicket tells the story of how the three Baudelaire children became orphans, in this wonderfully dark but magical world where nothing is quite as it seems. Perhaps a little too dark for younger children, but sure to thrill older ones. ~GenXGirl
3 stars (Good Enough) The set designs and the special effects are outstanding - the toddler is terrific but some of the adult performances seem out of sync but then again I haven't read the book. ~Tubbs
