Aroview: Unsettling doco exposing the corrupted underbelly of Sao Paulo, Brazil, where abduction, political fraud and torture runs rife.

A protege of director Errol Morris, first-time film-maker Jason Kohn assembles an eclectic cast of real-life characters (a kidnapping victim, a gang thug, a plastic surgeon, a frog farmer, etc.) whose remarkable perspectives build a layered portrait of a troubled culture, largely a victim of a vast poverty gap. Not a very flattering postcard, this is understandably banned in its host nation, though viewers can take small comfort in the fact that the violence is one-step removed from the tourist circuit.
