Burrowers, The

Aroview: Horror-western that plays like TREMORS with cowboys, focused on a group of pioneers who set out to recover some missing settlers only to find themselves stalked by something otherworldly.

Dir. Petty tackles his unusual subgenre with aplomb, mixing wide shots of the open Dakota Plains and horse-opera theatrics with slow-burning tension and lashings of gore. The narrative meanders a little too much at times to maintain suspense, but culminates in a thrilling final act that's worth the wait.
