Eden Lake
Aroview: Vicious, visceral horror set in the 'idyllic' backwoods of Eden Lake where two British holidaymakers are terrorized by a group of sadistic children.
Pitching yoofs against yuppies in a brutal game of cat and mouse, this is a relentless piece of filmmaking, which, while never straying from its genre path, wraps its hands around the necks of the middle class and refuses to let go. Its power begs the question of whether or not this kind of exploitation of the British 'chav' culture is warranted, although as you sit on the edge of your seat screaming ‘run!’ at the unlucky protagonists, its somewhat reactionary subtext is steamrolled by heady thrills.
