Goya's Ghosts
Aroview: A lavish, if ill-designed costume epic based around Spanish artist Francisco Goya (Skarsgard), his closest acquaintances, and the eventful late 18th century.
Satisfying his taste for opulent European spectacle, dir. Forman (AMADEUS) delivers the expected luxuriousness in dress, décor and cinematography. However ravishing though, those seeking the finer details of Goya’s life may come away disappointed, with the painter’s career a mere framing device for torrid melodrama (centred around his muse and best friend, played by Portman and Bardem respectively) and historical recreation (from the Spanish Inquisition to Napoleon's invasion).

4 stars (Very Good) Goya: incredibly talented and sadly, very money-hungry. rnNatalie Portman: two different women. What else is new? rnJavier Bardem: darn scary, same as NCFOM. rnVarious Aristocrats: Haughty. Have their heads chopped. rnGood history lesson & costume ~Cruella
2 stars (Good Try) The cruelty and stupidity of religious hypocrisy have been thrashed to death on film quite a number of times so it would have been better if this had have more focus on something intelligent. ~Tubbs
