Coraline
Aroview: The prodigious talents of fantasy writer Neil Gaiman and animator Henry Selick combine for this wonderful - though admittedly creepy - tale a young girl who discovers a portal to an oddly 'perfect' parallel world in her new house.
Seamlessly stitches together Gaiman's otherworldly surrealism with Selick's intricate animated palette, and though steeped in both men's trademarks, manages to have a distinctive look and feel in what has become a crowded genre of "children's gothic". Painting it blacker than even Tim Burton might dare, the mutations of domesticity (both visual and thematic) make this definitely not one for young children.
Features the voices of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, Keith David.

4 stars (Very Good) Stunning 3D stop motion animation with a story that will give many a young child the shivers but does enough to keep the grown ups interested. ~The Myrka
