Encounters at the End of the World
Aroview: Werner Herzog ventures forth to Antarctica, hounding a team of scientists based at McMurdo Station in this stunning, eccentric nature documentary.
An extension of the ecological forewarning and otherworldly surrealism pitched in THE WILD BLUE YONDER, Herzog offers a more literal take on those concerns by arranging breathtaking, extraterrestrial footage with the promise of discovery, as well as sobering signs of decay. The focus is more squarely on the South Pole's inhabitants though, with the director's knack for drawing out the fascinating and mundane in interviews the secret behind the film's wonderfully diverse and obsessional cast of characters.
