Taking Of Pelham 123, The
Aroview: Flashy remake of the 70s heist movie sees John Travolta as the mastermind behind the hijack of a New York subway train, and Denzel Washington as the FBI agent tasked to negotiate.
Directed by action vet Tony Scott, this is a sfx-heavy, ego-centric affair, the well-written, taut storyline frequently swallowed under generous helpings of explosions and ultra-cool quips from a handlebar-mustached Travolta. Still, action fans will love it, and those who fondly remember the original might be tempted to give it another watch.

3 stars (Good Enough) Again, a very Tony Scott affair, with Washington in lead alongside Travolta (who has proven he can play a bad-guy), and an against-the-clock premise which means that the action flows fast and slick. ~Tom H

2 stars (Good Try) Travolta's hysterical performance gets tiresome. If you have watched the original you should appreciate that version all the more. ~Tubbs
