Religulous
Aroview: 'Good' and 'Evil' are turned on their head (and in their graves) in this provocative docu-comedy following comedian and commentator Bill Maher on a global quest to debunk religion and "save humanity".
Maher is a highly entertaining guide through the world of the religious extreme, his reckless gob and cutting wit providing frequent wince-inducing hilarity as he exposes the inherent flaws in the belief systems of Christians, Catholics, Mormans, Scientologists, Jews and Muslims alike. Taking a more irreverent approach to atheist academic Richard Dawkins, Maher has been accused of undermining his arguments by picking on the defenseless with cheap wisecracks, but there are few moments of unfairness here, and there's none of the mean-spiritedness that tainted BORAT and BRUNO, the director's other similar projects. Maher in fact has an ultimately serious agenda; to bring agnosticism out of the American closet to help save the world of a "self-fulfilling prophecy of doom".
