Aroview: Spiteful revenger with Butler wreaking vengeance from behind prison bars on the legal system who let his family's killers walk free.

Tightly-wound thriller ticks along nicely with Butler and Foxx doing a fine trade in brow furrowing stoicism. Its only when pic tries to have it both ways as both torture porn and 'social commentary' that it starts to come apart, with whatever salient points being made hard to see through the blood.

3 stars (Good Enough) This is best seen as a revenge flick with elements of suspense, action, and extreme violence, rather than a thought-provoking law/prison film. But it is intense, and you will be drawn in to the twists, even if you don't particularly want to be. ~Tom H

2 stars (Good Try) Some of the violence is overdone and some of it is just plain silly. An uneven performance from Butler doesn't help. ~Tubbs
