Dir. Paul Greengrass
Rating: [M]
Genres: Action/Adventure / War, Hostages & Terrorism
Topics: Politics.
Aroview: Action ace Paul Greengrass deploys Bourne leading man Matt Damon in this frenetic, politically pointed thriller focused on the hunt for Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.
Although not much of a dramatic workout for its well-chosen cast, this rarely misses a beat as both an agile, relentlessly paced action vehicle, and an involving conspiracy thriller concerned with the ‘lies’ surrounding the Bush administration’s justification for invasion. More than your average Hollywood shoot-em-up, dir. Greengrass’s film ultimately distinguishes itself from the swell of Iraq war movies by broaching the hot-button issue of Middle Eastern occupation within the throws of an exciting, commercial product.

4 stars (Very Good) One helluva ride from start to finish, and while the style of the film makes you think this is Bourne in Iraq, there is a lot more intelligence going on, than in most action films. ~The Myrka
3 stars (Good Enough) A good actioner, if somewhat more shallow than it would have you believe. Yes, there is talk of political agendas and government coverups, but at the end of the day this is another film with too-much handheld camerawork and other standard action elements. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) Emphasis is on authenticity which is the Greengrass trademark. Real vets are used as extras. ~Tubbs
