Aroview: The director of cult hit CUBE ups the ante in hybrid horror with this story of geneticists who, after recombining DNA from different species, give birth to a grotesque human-animal embryo.
Like the director's other works, this is smarter than most and its strong premise takes it a fair distance, though in the latter stages he can't keep a lid on his own intriguing experiment as the characters leap forward without sufficient readiness. Still, with its brew of freak science, psycho-sexual metaphors and ethical conundrums, this is still a slick bet for sci-fi aficianados, even if it is ultimately more conventional than it aspires to be.

2 stars (Good Try) The Frankenstein story cries out for cloning-era treatment... All the ideas are here, but there's a whiff of cheese throughout, and the film can't decide whether its sincere or tongue-in-cheek; as a result its never truly scary or thought-provoking. ~fairbrother
2 stars (Good Try) Natali's great, IMHO, but this is fairly weak. It needed more science (or more madness), some Cronenberg-level creepiness and the script could have been much tighter. Oh well, we'll just have to be happy with 'Cube' and 'Cypher' then. ~HiFi
3 stars (Good Enough) The scenes involving Dren are very good and include some good work by the make-up and effects people. "Her" scenes contain a good mix of horror, sci-fi, and comedy. The other scenes are forgettable but Dren is worth the time. ~Tubbs
