Everlasting Moments
Aroview: A touching, delicately shot memoir told from the perspective of a Finnish immigrant in Sweden who finds relief from her abusive husband in the art of photography.
Recalling the gentle, bittersweet nostalgia of Scandinavian classic MY LIFE AS A DOG, this similarly unfolds at a languid pace, taking time to dwell on the struggles and small triumphs of turn-of-the-century living while remaining centred on the fine performance of its quiet heroine (Maria Heiskanen). Dir. Troell’s sepia-toned images also superbly complement the story’s photographic bent, evoking a sense of wonder and discovery intrinsic to the medium of film at the time.
