Dir. Paul Murphy
Rating: [PG]
Genres: Comedy / Romance
Feat. Rhys Darby, Sally Hawkins, Emily Barclay, Craig Hall, Bryan Brown, John Leigh, David Fane, Adam Gardiner
Aroview: Chirpy, engaging Kiwi comedy with Rhys Darby as a recently jilted council worker whose nursing of a wounded duck leads to unexpected romance with zookeeper Sally Hawkins (HAPPY-GO-LUCKY).
The writer and director of SECOND HAND WEDDING reteam and it's a more confident effort, benefitting from a toned-down comic performance from Rhys Darby, whose befuddled everyman finds palpable romantic chemistry with the equally 'awkward' Sally Hawkins. Also defies expectations in its deployment of Queen songs on the soundtrack, which nicely compliment the narrative instead of simply cashing in on those over-familiar hooks. Other credits include a cheeky performance by Emily Barclay, and a genuine smiley-faced ending.
